英语中所谓的虚拟语气就是说话人说的不是事实，而是一种假设，愿望，怀疑，或者推测等，反正就是不是真的发生的事。这就是虚拟语气，经常用wish和hope来跟宾语从句，从句中就是虚拟语气，有可能实现的用hope，例如I hope that I I I were always good girl （我希望我一直是好姑娘），不可能实现的就用wish，例如I wish that I were a bird（我希望我是一只鸟）。
哪些词后跟从句，要用虚拟语气？
动词 wish, suggest, order, insist, propose等后面的宾语从句中常使用虚拟语气，此时宾语从句中的动词表示的是一种愿望和要求。 表示“要求、建议、命令”等动词后面的宾语从句中的虚拟语气。这类动词包括：demand, suggest, order, insist, propose等。这些动词后面的从句中用“should 动词原形”构成虚拟语气, 其中“should”可以省略。
